Next Leisure Suit Larry game to revisit its adventure game roots?

In an interview with IGN, John Melchior, executive producer of Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust (hehehe), the official next game in the naughty series, is quoted as saying “[Box Office Bust] is most certainly an adventure game.” This is great news for fans of the series (myself included) who were more than disappointed by Larry’s last game, the horrible mini-game fest, Magna Cum Laude.

The original Sierra-produced Leisure Suit Larry entries were timeless adventure games in the mold of other classics like Secret of Monkey Island and King’s Quest. A return to form would be a welcome and exciting change, but let’s not get our hopes up just yet: Reading more of the interview, Mr. Melchior also mentions driving, platformer, and mission-based gameplay. Uh oh. This sounds like trouble.

Regardless, the positive producer guarantees that everything from Magna Cum Laude that made it so bad was tossed away in the hopes of revitalizing the series. So is it an adventure game or not? I am still so confused.

I guess we’ll see how it all turns out when Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust comes to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC sometime in the future (a release date is still unconfirmed). What do you think? Are you as worried as I am? Do you miss the classic adventure gaming days of yore?
