To be expected, really
Was Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on your radar as something that would realistically make it out in 2016? The thought hadn’t crossed my mind in a good long while, so there’s my answer. Today, developer Ninja Theory confirmed a 2017 release on PS4 and PC, citing a few reasons for the delay.
As discussed in this developer video, earlier in the year, the team “had a project canceled” and that setback “took some time to sort out.” What’s more, there was “a rare opportunity to collaborate with Epic Games and others to push performance capture technology forward for the whole video games industry.” And lastly, on top of all that, progress on Hellblade hasn’t exactly been fast-going.
Ninja Theory doesn’t want to rush it, and “compromising on quality is not something [it’s] willing to entertain.” Since this is an independent project, there’s that freedom to take more time as needed. Aside from the release update, there’s another behind-the-scenes montage in here. That starts at 1:20.
