After getting email tip from Daniel Friedlaender of LITHCast.com about the demise of Camp Hyrule, I had to investigate further. Not that I knew much about the camp to begin with, but there are two things in life that I just can’t bear to see. One happens to be the thought of Ronald McDonald without his makeup, and the other as you may have guessed, is a Nintendo fan getting their dreams crushed by Nintendo itself. So I did a little digging around to see what the hubbub was all about.
Well, it appears that Nintendo has decided that instead of having the 13th annual virtual camp that thousands can attend online, Nintendo fans would rather have the chance to win a life-size statue of Link instead. What is the reasoning behind this? Superstition seems to be the culprit, since the official page talks about how mixing an unlucky number with a camp like theirs is a recipe for disaster. However, I’m still holding out hope that there is a more rational explanation for this.
For the sake of the fans, I’d like to think that Nintendo is willing to work around whatever glitches they may potentially encounter in keeping Camp Hyrule going. We all know how little respect Internet petitions get these days, but for what it’s worth Daniel — I signed your petition. If nothing else, you now have reached a much larger audience.
