1.13 million sold in November in the US
This week, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch (combined via the original, Lite, and OLED) has hit 1.13 million units sold in the US alone, stating that the Switch was the top-selling US console for November 2021.
This info is drawn from the NPD Group, who reconfirms that the Switch was the top-selling US console “in both units and dollars” for November. NPD also highlights that the Switch is the most successful console in the US for the entirety of 2021. This is despite a 38% decline in November hardware sales compared to 2020, which NPD points out is due in part to worldwide shortages.
In terms of Switch game news, Shin Megami Tensei V won big in November, hitting the “highest launch month dollar sales” of any SMT game in history. It was 16th overall in the NPD November rankings, and sixth on Switch. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl also had a good month, collectively taking the number three overall spot behind Call of Duty: Vanguard (#1) and Battlefield 2042 (#2). In sixth is Mario Party Superstars.
The release of the OLED Switch no doubt boosted things a bit for Nintendo this year, and the system is now officially a “hardware family.” You have the original Switch (1.0 and the new battery edition), the Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED. What’s next? A Pro?! I can’t wait to hear about it every month from insiders.
