When the Nintendo Wii was first announced, I’m sure we all wondered when the time would come to play a game in which scorpions and tarantulas would assert dominance over the rest of their buggy kin before moving onto the soft, weak humans. Well, Deadly Creatures brings gamers one step closer to the dream they’ve all had, as it delivers invertebrate-themed combat to the Wii.
Rainbow Studios says that Deadly Creatures will “follow the entwined adventures of an armored scorpion and a stealthy tarantula as they struggle against a variety of creatures”. These include Gila monsters, other arachnids, and man itself. Executive producer Nick Wlodyka has this to say:
“[The game’s a] creepy, cinematic thrill ride, where the distinction between predator and prey can shift around every corner. With brutal motion-controlled combat, a dark, compelling story and some of the best visuals to date on the Wii, we are excited to bring Deadly Creatures to a large core Wii audience that hungers for a new experience.”
It really does sound crazy, but what the heck. I’m willing to give this a chance, and I’m incredibly curious to find out how you make a dark, compelling story revolving around a pair of poisonous arachnids. I think it’s safe to say that skepticism is healthy on this story, however intriguing the concept may be. We don’t want another Bug Island on our hands.
