Ōkamiden seems like the perfect fit for the Nintendo DS, with its “Celestial Brush” mechanic that has players using the stylus to draw strokes in the game world to affect the environment and combat. It would also, many would imagine, be perfect for a device like the iPhone or the larger iPad.
But according to Ōkamiden producer Motoshide Eshiro, there aren’t any plans right now for any devices beyond the Nintendo DS adding “it is a temptation.”
“When designing this game, we wanted to put it on the DS,” he explains through a translator. “One of the first goals of this game is to expand the user base, to expand awareness of the Ōkamiden brand. We want to get more people to know about this game, to get more people playing this game, and that meant concentrating all of our efforts on a portable gaming system.”
“Hopefully the reaction will be good,” he adds, “and we’ll get a lot of people playing. Once that happens, we might get calls to start putting this on other systems.”
With Capcom’s track record for strong mobile support (including an iPhone version of Resident Evil 4, as well as the original Ghosts N’ Goblins: Gold Knights), the idea isn’t far-fetched. “iDevice” users, would this be something you’re interested in? You might want to consider giving Motoshide Eshiro a call… he’s already tempted.
