No Man’s Sky moved to August 2016

More polish needed during the home stretch

Earlier this week, there were rumblings that No Man’s Sky would miss its June 21, 2016 release date. Kotaku had it on good authority that the space exploration game might not make it out until August, much to the chagrin of eager fans. As confirmed today by Sony and developer Hello Games, that is indeed the case. No Man’s Sky is now scheduled to release on August 9 in North America, August 10 in Europe, and August 12 in the UK. There it is.

Speaking on the matter, Hello Games managing director Sean Murray says “as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.” He added that No Man’s Sky is shaping up to the point where he “can finally let [himself] get excited. We’re actually doing this.”

On the one hand, I was looking forward to coming home from E3 in a couple of weeks and unwinding with this game, but on the other, I’d much rather it come out when it’s nice and ready.
