November software NPD: Modern Warfare 2, other games

We aren’t surprised that Activision and Infinity Ward had a strong showing in the month of November with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The prime reason being that we’re aware that a lot people seem to dig the IP. The other reason, of course, is that most studios and publishers steered clear of the launch. Hell, even my mother put off her neck surgery for fear of competition. But some games did come out, and some even sold well considering, at least according to the latest NPD numbers.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — Xbox 360 — 4.20M
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — PS3 — 1.9M
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii — Wii — 1.4M
  • Assassin’s Creed II — Xbox 360 — 795K
  • Left 4 Dead 2 — Xbox 360 — 720K
  • Wii Sports Resort — Wii — 720K
  • Wii Fit Plus — Wii — 679K
  • Assassin’s Creed II — PS3 — 448K
  • Dragon Age: Origins — Xbox 360 — 362K
  • Mario Kart (w/wheel) — Wii — 315K

While nowhere near 4.20M units moved, it’s nice to know that Mario can still hang with the newer big boys. On a dissimilar note, it’s a bit of a shock to see that another FPS, L4D2, was able to roll during the MW craze. Mad props.
