Two week delay shouldn’t bring much dismay
After an overwhelmingly popular launch of its newest graphics cards, which saw people and possibly bots snapping up everything available, Nvidia has made the decision to delay the launch of the last card for its 3000 series in order to avoid stocking issues.
Originally scheduled for October 15, the new launch date for the RTX 3070 is now October 29.
The 3070 is the “budget” model of this year’s impressive 3000 graphics cards series. Despite being the weakest card of the three, the RTX 3070 – which will go on sale for $499 – boasts a better performance on paper than the RTX 2080 Ti that launched with a $999 price tag. It’s a huge step up in regards to “bang for your buck” and Nvidia is expecting high sales numbers, so it listened to its fans and pushed the launch back to make more units available.
Speaking in a press statement, Nvidia said:
Production of GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards are ramping quickly. We’ve heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th.
We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.
Those who were hoping to get their new 3070s before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 better get their F5 fingers ready for October 29, because it’s looking to be a close shave in the lead up to the fall releases.
