Nvidia pushes SHIELD gaming handheld to July

Third-party mechanical component to blame

Recommended Videos

Originally scheduled to ship this week, the Nvidia SHIELD has been pushed back to next month due to a “mechanical issue” turning up during final quality-assurance testing.

“The issue relates to a third-party mechanical component, and we’re working around the clock with the supplier to get it up to our expectations,” Nvidia wrote. “We apologize to those who have preordered SHIELDs and to all those who are waiting for them to go on sale. But we want every SHIELD to be just right.”

Talk about cutting it close. I have no intention of getting one of these devices myself but I was eager to hear how they perform and if the $299.99 price tag will make sense for certain people. Nvidia will provide a revised launch date on its blog in the coming days.
