Obsidian reveals its plan for potential KOTOR III

An end to the trilogy may yet see the light of day

Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords was a stellar Star Wars RPG that shone despite its bugs and rushed production schedule. It left me wanting to a sequel and, speaking to Eurogamer, Obsidian’s Chris Avellone also harbored further plans for the crew of the Ebon Hawk. Knights of the Old Republic III actually existed in pre-production at Obsidian but it never made it past the pitch process.

Obsidian’s Chris Avellone says that “it felt like we were pitching and pitching and it just wasn’t going anywhere, and at some point people just drew a line and said ‘it’s just not going to happen.'” I had never considered the KOTOR games to be part of a potential trilogy but Avellone confirmed that the plan was to have “The Exile” from KOTOR II potentially meeting Revan from KOTOR I and finding “the true Sith Lords.”

But enough of all that, what of HK-47, one of the best supporting characters in an RPG ever? “At one point HK-47, its legs dismantled, would “ride around in your backpack,” Chris explains “like C-3PO does with Chewbacca in Empire Strikes Back.” Brilliant!

The best parts of KOTOR II were when your crew began expanding and you felt like you were making a really close-knit group. I’d love to see KOTOR III happen but if it never does, I’m glad that there’s mods like The Sith Lords Content Mod that can help me squeeze every last bit of goodness from the game.
