Ocarina of Time 3D was developed by a third party

Despite being a port, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is one of Nintendo’s key titles during the 3DS launch window. The original game is one of the greatest games ever made, if not the greatest. Therefore, one would assume that Nintendo would be handling this remake in-house and with all the care that it would award any high-profile, first-party release.

Well, surprise, surprise! The game was developed by Grezzo, a fairly young third-party studio with only one other game under its belt to date — the Japan-exclusive WiiWare title Line Attack Heroes. No worries, though! Grezzo CEO Koichi Ishii was the creator of the Mana series as well as a heavy contributor to the early Final Fantasy games, so Zelda is in good hands!

Besides, it’s not like Nintendo hasn’t been known to trust outside companies with key franchises in the past — Next Level Games with Punch-Out!!, Hudson with the Mario Party series, and Capcom with previous handheld Zelda titles. And hopefully, the skills Grezzo picks up here will lead to great things in the future.
