Old dog, new looks
It’s 2016 and Ezio Auditore da Firenze is about to waltz back into our lives. He’s proverbially old — Assassin’s Creed II came out in 2009 — and literally old as we’ll see in Revelations. He’s looking better than we remember him, though. Makeovers traditionally aim to smooth any blemishes, but this one emphasizes every wrinkle and highlights every scar.
Ubisoft released this comparison trailer for Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, a remastered take on Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations for current consoles. As is always the case with these videos, it’s fascinating watching the visuals transition from blurry landscapes to detailed environments. Also, notice how weird the color grading was in the original versions of these games.
It is worth noting that the visuals are all that The Ezio Collection is changing. For instance, EGM reported in September that Assassin’s Creed II still won’t have replayable missions. Ubisoft commented “All games will have the same features that they had when they initially launched, but will have enhanced graphics.”
This trailer literally shows the only improvements to Ezio’s trilogy over how they were originally experienced. And that’s perfectly okay! Just know that a better-looking game is all you’re signing up for.
