Deal with living playing cards, mirrors, and some tea
Ghost Town Games and Team17 are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Overcooked: series with a special free update. The Birthday Party update goes live for Overcooked: All You Can Eat today, adding some new content and of course, new challenges to overcome in the name of good cooking.
The Birthday Party update features five new, birthday party-themed levels to take on. The general aesthetic is very regal and fancy, but there are obstacles to deal with as well. Living playing cards are walking around with magical mirrors, which transport players across the kitchen with a mechanic called “Switcheroo.” Seems like there will be a lot of chaos coming to the world of Overcooked: All You Can Eat with this update.
There’s also a new chef, the Tabby Cat, and a new recipe. In this birthday party fervor, you’ll learn how to serve a good cup of tea, which also seems to include massive boiling tea pots. Seems like some good fun.
Overcooked being five years old definitely made me do a double take, as it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since I first booted up the co-op cooking game and ruined my friendships. Through the first two games, and the dual-package game All You Can Eat, Overcooked has been one of my go-to co-op party games for a while.
With the Birthday Update, it seems like there’s some reason to bust that back out again. Team17 and Ghost Town Games are also allowing folks who are curious about Overcooked to get a free sample, as the entire game of Overcooked: All You Can Eat will be free to play on Steam, from Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. BST (1 p.m. ET) to Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. BST (1 p.m. ET).
