Michael Pachter, games industry analyst and manufacturer of fine traditional ale has claimed that videogames are due to bounce back this year. He reckons that the volume of top-tier titles hitting shelves this year will reverse the ailing fortunes of the industry. Hooray!
“We believe that industry sales will rebound in 2010 and that GameStop is well-positioned to reap the rewards,” states the silver-tongued lemur. “… The company’s appeal to hardware gamers will become increasingly important as Wii sales stagnate and Q1’s long-awaited slate of games (Army of Two: The 40th Day, BioShock 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Splinter Cell Conviction etc) comes to market.”
It will probably be a decent year for sure, but one does wonder if all these titles fighting for exposure in the loaded first-half of 2010 will be a good thing. Delaying games to 2010 was a great idea before everybody started doing it, and now we run the risk of some heavy saturation. I hope not, but that remains to be seen.
