Remember Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball for the Xbox? It came out in 2004, and if you don’t recall it, we won’t blame you. A follow up, Greg Hasting’s Tournament Paintball Max’d was later released on a variety of platforms, in case you missed the first one. Both were published by Activision, but alongside its bigger franchises, didn’t quite make a dent at retail. But according to the paintball pro whose name appeared on the box, Activision was keen on continuing the series… just without him involved.
“Activision tried to steal my franchise,” hasting alleges, speaking with GamesRadar. “Within 24 hours of me shipping my PlayStation 2 game, Greg Hasting’s Tournament Paintball Max’d, they sent me a letter and they said ‘We feel you’ve abandoned your franchise, and we’re going to commence making games called Greg Hastings Paintball without Greg Hastings.”
Hastings then says a legal battle ensued, with Hastings coming out the victor. This year, Majesco will publish Greg Hastings Paintball 2, Activision be damned.
“They made us a spend a whole pile of money and we won unanimously in court,” Hastings claims. “A billion-dollar company tried to steal my identity, and I was able to fight and regain by identity. That’s why I’m on cloud nine; I found the giant and I’m a success story against Activision.”
