Fans of found-footage frights will soon be able to dig into a new video game take on the Paranormal Activity film series. By “soon” we mean 2026, which is when the “all-new interactive game experience” from the devs behind The Mortuary Assistant is set to launch.
The Paranormal Activity: Found Footage game has DarkStone Digital (The Mortuary Assistant) and DreadXP partnering with Paramount for a release on “multiple gaming platforms.” In a move that’s fitting for the source material, the devs are aiming for a found-footage style backed by a special “Haunt System.” That boils down to different types of scares depending on how you play and the actions you take throughout the game.
You won’t get much more than that — except, perhaps, a chill up your spine — in the logo-centric teaser trailer:
The Paranormal Activity series first kicked off back in 2007 and quickly became a huge hit, spawning a total of seven films over the years. Directed by Oren Peli, the first entry was shot for a cool $15,000 before Paramount picked it up and pumped a little more money into it. With an global box office of around $194 million, you can see why they kept going back to that particular well.
As for how it’s going to translate to a video game, we have a while to ponder. According to DreadXP co-director and creative director Brian Clarke, the team is taking what they learned with The Mortuary Assistant and “cranking it up with a more reactive and horrifying haunting system.” Hopefully we’ll find some of that footage soon!
