Annual event to return in 2021
Paris Games Week has become the latest in a long line of industry events forced to abandon its plans due to the ongoing COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic. PGW 2020 was originally scheduled to take place between October 23-27, where it would have celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Organisers SELL (Union of Publishers of Leisure Software) registered their disappointment in an official blog post. “It is with great emotion that we have made the difficult decision to cancel Paris Games Week,” reads the statement. “This year should have been special, with a line-up full of new releases, and an anniversary edition which we were thrilled to celebrate with you. We are going to work with all the industry players to enable us all to live our passion. We are already preparing next year’s edition and are looking forward to seeing you again.”
While October is still some months away, SELL is well aware of the “the technical and logistical complexities” of trying to plan a week-long event when so many uncertainties remain apparent. The coronavirus pandemic has caused the cancellation of many of the year’s biggest industry events, including PAX East, gamescom, E3, and, most recently, Tokyo Games Show.
