Path of Exile developer Grinding Gear Games has provided an updated timeline for the release of the PoE expansion. Typically, new expansions and leagues launch about three months apart, but the 3.24 expansion will be a few weeks later than usual and is now planned for late March.
A long Affliction League
Each expansion for Path of Exile brings with it a new league themed around a new mechanic. The current expansion, Path of Exile Affliction, will last longer than usual until the new expansion is released.
This has happened for the last few expansions that have been released for Path of Exile. With Path of Exile 2 hitting beta in a few months, this is certainly understandable. After all, this is probably the last expansion we’ll get before the beta. The two games will now operate separately from each other as standalone titles with their own updates.
When this has happened recently, Grinding Gear Games usually runs end-of-league events to keep the months-old league fresh and get players excited again ahead of the new expansion. However, the post indicated they are not planning to do that this time around.
I’m sure some will be disappointed, but honestly, I’m not very interested in participating in end-of-league events after doing so in the last few expansions. The special events were pretty fresh and exciting a few expansions back, but now that they’ve been happening every expansion I’m a bit burnt out on them. But without coming back, it will be nice to jump into a completely fresh experience with the Path of Exile 3.24 expansion and league.
Path of Exile 3.24 will now be released at the end of March. With previous expansions, Grinding Gear Games revealed the new expansion about a week before its release.
