Wouldn’t it be cool if P5 was for the PS5?
Persona 5, the only game that matters, got a proper trailer last week that managed to live up to and surpass some lofty expectations. We know a bit more about what we were shown now, too, thanks to a Famitsu piece covered by Sokuho@Hokanko and picked up by Gematsu.
The protagonist’s persona is Arsene. It fits the burglary motif, as it’s a nod to the classic French gentleman thief character Arsène Lupin. Or, more closely, Japan’s Lupin III, whose canonical lineage stems from the French original. The tousled hair protagonist is a second year high school student living just outside the city at his parents’ friends’ coffee shop and, unlike in Persona 3 and 4, he has his own problem to deal with rather than just being the town fixer.
On the gameplay side, guns are back as ranged weapons. All the characters have their own distinct gun, but, like Evokers, they’re not actual guns. They are used for combat, though. There are also some not-randomly-generated dungeon areas with their own “gimmicks.” Think the flashy stealth cover bit from the trailer. That was actually suggested by the anime director. The 2D cutscenes are being done by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Kick-Heart). The cobbled together dungeons will return, though, along with turn-based combat that’s a bit different from past battle mechanics.
Also the cat can transform. Give me this game.
