Phil Spencer says Xbox Series X game reveals are coming before long

‘Not too much of a wait’

For the past year, talk surrounding next-generation consoles has been a slow dripfeed of tech specs and theoretical capabilities. Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have centered early marketing around what’s inside their machines and what their target goals are. By and large, no one has really shown us games yet.

Time is running out before PS5 and Xbox Series X launch this fall, and that means we have to hear something about games sometime soon. The conventional wisdom was that game reveals would happen around E3 (at least for Xbox, PlayStation had already publicly announced it was ditching E3 again), but that’s canceled now. It has led industry analysts to predict these two behemoths would move their reveal schedules up, possibly into May.

Without reading into vaguity too much, Xbox’s next-gen launch lineup is coming before long. Xbox head Phil Spencer replied to a fan’s question on Twitter by saying “Next step [which is showing games] is not too much of a wait.”

For many, this will be the deciding factor in which platform to adopt first. They want to know which games they can play on their games-playing machines. Both PS4 and Xbox One have confirmations of various third-party titles like People Can Fly’s Outriders and Techland’s Dying Light 2, but there’s no real information as to what will be available on launch day. Sony hasn’t yet announced any first-party PS5 games. Xbox has revealed only Halo Infinite and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. There’s still a long way to go, and that’s exciting potential from both companies.
