Physics, Danny Devito, and secret tricks of game dev with Hunter and Alex

Sup Holmes every Sunday!

[Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great video games. It airs live every Sunday afternoon on YouTube, and can be found in podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.]

One of the things that I love about doing Sup Holmes is getting to meet people who helped pioneered indie game development 20-plus years ago one week, then getting to know their metaphorical “children” the next.

Such was the case with these two episodes. First we we got to know Alex Austin, programmer on IGF-winning, physics-based platformer Gish and creator of the gun-jamming, crime-loving, psychological tactics shooter Sub Rosa. Then weeks later, we got to meet the mysterious Punches “Hunter” Bears, a man using many of the game design philosophies pioneered by Austin over ten years ago to bring Danny Devito, a chainsaw wielding bear, and a floppy burrito-loving man to life. What a treat!

Thanks to Alex and Hunter for hanging out with us, and be sure to tune in today at 2:30pm EST when welcome James and Joar, creators of Rain World, yet another violent, physics-based adventure game with random elements. It’s going to be great!
