Now the bugs can be a literal feature
Remember when Nintendo confirmed a Niantic-led mobile Pikmin project back in March? Well, me neither. This past year has been a blur, and given Niantic’s track record, this is sort of a “I’ll see it when I see it” situation. But what about the Pikmin mobile release date? According to Nintendo, it’s still due by the end of 2021.
As Nintendo Life points out, Nintendo snuck a little update on the Pikmin mobile release date in the latest consolidated financial forecast. Here’s the full quote:
“In our mobile business, we will focus on continuing to operate the applications that we have released to date, along with the application featuring Pikmin from Niantic that is planned for the second half of 2021, and work on ways to encourage more consumers to continue to enjoy playing these applications.”
Note that this is as of August 5, so it’s not a delayed response, and it seems like it’s very confident in letting us know that it is still on track. Now things could change: including the Pikmin mobile release date.
I really have no clue as to how this is going to pan out. I mean, Niantic can barely manage Pokemon Go, much less whatever they have planned for Pikmin. It’s totally possible that they could market it as a very low key casual alternative to the money-making Go, which would be an excuse for a limited amount of updates and support.
