Platinum Games teasing a gift for Christmas Day

‘Rodin will have a present for you…’

[Update: The present is the first page of an ongoing downloadable Bayonetta calender, coinciding with the announcement that the weekly Bayonetta 2 dev blog updates are ending. Also, Kamiya blocked me again. Thanks for the cool gifts, Platinum!]

Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya just unblocked me on Twitter, which is probably the best gift I could hope for from the respected studio, but the rest of you may be getting something special from them as well. The Platinum Games Twitter account has encouraged fans to check its official Facebook page tomorrow for a present from Rodin, Bayonetta’s shopkeeper, rival, and renowned Santa impersonator. I’m pretty sure he’s also Lucifer, but that’s just speculation.

The series generally doesn’t treat Judeo-Christian beliefs with much reverence. Bayonetta spends most of her games making fun of angels, spanking them, and murdering them without a hint of shame or humility. She’ll do the same to demons of course, but just because she’s an equal opportunity spanker/murderer doesn’t make her any less sacrilegious. It’s a wonder the Christian Right hasn’t gotten more mad about her. It’s probably because they haven’t heard of her (yet).

So knowing how little respect Bayonetta has shown for Christian figures in the past, it’s easy to imagine how tomorrow’s “gift” might be something that pokes fun at the Christmas Holiday. A sexy Jesus DLC costume for Bayonetta 2 perhaps? An announcement that the next Bayonetta game will be announced “this week… in a Christian magazine“? The one thing I’m sure of is that it won’t be the announcement that Bayonetta 2 is coming to the Xbox One or PS4, though that seems to be the most popular guess going around at the moment.
