With retail versions of VR headsets incoming over the next ten months, a lot of eyes are on Sony to start revealing more information regarding the final retail specs of its upcoming PlayStation VR headset. While much is still unknown, we may finally have confirmation of a long rumoured aspect of Sony’s VR solution.

According to a report by Polygon, who used a near retail PlayStation VR at a recent event but were unable to take photographs of the unit, it featured the long rumoured “external processing unit,” which is a box that connects the console and headset, providing additional processing power for VR software.

Basically, imagine the expansion pack for the N64, only it’s external and “around the size of a Wii.”

If these rumours of the size of the external processor are true, it will likely come in at around one third the size of the launch PS4 console.
