I know we talk here and there about the death of the print magazine, but seriously folks, it’s not looking so good. This morning, MCV reported that Future Publishing has announced that they will be closing PlayStation World Magazine. One member of the magazine’s team has already been reassigned to another project, while others are currently looking into moving to the Bath and London offices.
Games portfolio publishing director James Binns says of the announcement:
It’s always incredibly sad when we close a title as established as PSW, but the decision was taken in response to decreasing demand. By focusing our efforts on Official PlayStation Magazine and a single independent PlayStation title in PSM3, we can strengthen our position in delivering the number one and number two print titles in the sector.
Why they had so many PlayStation-centric magazines in the first place is anyone’s guess (OMGfanboys!!11!), but I have a feeling one less is only going to mean that Offical PlayStation Magazine gets better. Did any of you subscribe to PlayStation World Magazine and become upset to hear this news?
