Pre-E3 09: Aragorn’s Quest confirmed, also teased

Recommended Videos

About a week ago we reported that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment had a new Lord of the Ring title ready to be shown at E3. Dubbed Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, the game was described as family friendly — designed with the kid and his guardian in mind. At the time we didn’t know what it would look like, how it would play, or even platforms. Now we do.

Above is one of the first screens of the game WBIE sent our way earlier today. As you can plainly see the devs behind the title aren’t exactly shooting for realism, which is probably a good thing considering the title is only slated for release on the Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS.

Aragorn’s Quest will have players “assume the role of Aragorn” and fight through the more memorable conflicts in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You may be rolling your eyes — this isn’t anything EA hasn’t done before — but there’s a subtle twist with this game. These reenacted conflicts are the result of Samwise Gamgee — now hero and mayor of Hobbiton — telling stories to his children. King Aragorn of Gondor is a’coming to town, and Sam wants the little ones to know who he is.

The Wii version will have waggle, the DS version will probably have plenty of scribble. Cooperative is confirmed (the other player will be Gandalf) and we have a lovely teaser video of the game after the break. Check it out.
