Pretty! Show off with Nvidia’s ‘A New Dawn’ tech demo

Recommended Videos

Do you have a PC rig running Nvidia’s GTX 670, 680 or the new 690 cards? If so, here’s a lovely new tech demo to show off your new beast.

Back in 2002, Nvidia released a tech demo for their GeForce line featuring a fairy called Dawn. They’ve revisited the theme and the demo’s starring character in a new demo called “A New Dawn.” This time around, Dawn has a lush forest home (using DirectX 11 tessellation) instead of a cube, 40,000 locks of hair (over the old demo’s 1,700), and super realistic skin that shows off super realistic lighting. Depth-of-field and virtual bokeh techniques were used, light blooms and and fairy dust were added, and it was all topped off with FXAA to make it all clean and pretty. The end result is crazy beautiful, and I can’t wait until all games look like this.

Again, you’ll need at least a GTX 670 to run this, but they’re recommending SLI 670s and 680s, or one GTX 690 to see all the pretty stuff. If you’ve got the rig, download the demo and tell us how it goes. If you don’t, check out the video that Nvidia has posted.

Think I should try this out with my measly SLI 580 rig?
