Limited to 30,000 copies because reasons

It’s been a long nine months since I reported on the upcoming Blu-Ray release of Batman: The Animated Series and ever since then, news about the release has been kinda hush-hush. Yesterday the full details were revealed and let’s just say that it is both beautiful and expensive.

The big news first though, this collectors edition will release on October 16th, 2018 and will run you $112.99 USD. It features all 109 original episodes in high definition, as well as the two spin-off films Mask of the Phantasm and Mr. Freeze: Subzero!. The collector’s set also comes with some kitsch as well in the form of three mini Funko figures and seven exclusive lenticular art cards. The film geek in me is most excited about the 25 featurettes as well as a new full-length documentary that will show the creative team behind the classic show.

Now the bad news for those of us who can’t drop $113 super easily. The collector’s edition will be limited to 30,000 releases and /film reported that 2,000 copies were already pre-ordered at the time of writing their article last night. Yikes! Thankfully this is why I don’t spend any of my Amazon gift cards that I get for gifts and just let them accumulate so I can impulse buy things I ordinarily wouldn’t be able to! Capitalism!

The collector’s edition is up for pre-order over at Amazon and although I have no hard evidence on this, I suspect this will sell out before the October 16th release date so if you want it, I’d suggest pre-ordering.
