According to a report over at ComingSoon.net, the release of Walt Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film has been pushed back nearly a year. Originally slated for a June 19, 2009 release, Walt Disney are now targeting the film to hit theaters on May 28, 2010.
While no reason for the delay has been given, one can speculate. If were were to indeed speculate, we’d say that — as ComingSoon.net points out — it may be a simple case of repositioning the release for maximum marketing impact. Or maybe the production is a disaster. Or maybe the rumored Ubisoft Prince of Persia film tie-in game needs some more development time …
Whatever the case may be, it’s doubtful anyone will be too upset by this news. I suppose the only thing we’re really waiting for is to see how badly producer Jerry Bruckheimer and company screw this one up. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is being directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the not-actually-Persian Prince Dastan and Ben Kingsley as a also-not-Persian bald guy.
