PS3s no longer blocked in Europe as Sony wins appeal

Recommended Videos

Sony has won an appeal at the Hague today, overturning the blocking of European PS3 shipments and forcing the return of thousands of seized consoles.

LG had recently won an injunction against Sony during its copyright infringement suit. LG alleges that Sony unlawfully copied Blu-ray technology for the PS3, and was able to block console shipments in Europe. We only today posted about thousands of systems getting seized by Dutch authorities, but those actions have now been reversed.

In addition, LG has been fined €130,000, under thread of an extra €200,000 for every day it doesn’t pay.

This is an early victory for Sony, but it’s not over yet. The ongoing dispute between LG and Sony rages on, with LG seeking royalties for every single PS3 sold to date.
