It took them long enough, but Bandai Namco’s finally making good on its promise to put an Idolm@ster game on the PS4. Details and screens have arrived in the latest issue of Famitsu, giving the game a name and a timeframe. It’ll be called Idolm@ster: Platinum Stars, and is scheduled for release this year.

In details translated by Gematsu, Platinum Stars will reportedly feature the thirteen original cast members of 765 Productions, the starring outfit of The Idolm@ster and The Idolm@ster 2. Players will step into the role of a new producer joining the company, and form bonds with the girls while managing their costumes, training, and performance. According to series producer Youzou Sakagami, the game is 60% through development.

Other than the absurdly overpriced iOS ports of the PSP games, we’ve never had an Idolm@ster game in English, so I’m not quite getting my hopes up for a localized release. Still, it would be nice if Bandai Namco thought a generational jump would make for the right time to take the plunge on bringing the series across the pond.
