If you’re a Final Fantasy XIV player wanting to get ahead of the queues once Dawntrail goes live, there’s no need to wait until June 28 to download all the data for the expansion. It’s available to download now, at least on PC.
If you’re looking to avoid spoilers too, now might be the time to turn away from the internet for the next couple of days. With the patch being live for download, this also means that dataminers can dive in and get the information before regular players.
If you play Final Fantasy XIV through the official client, downloading the expansion is easy. All you need to do is launch the launcher, and allow it to update itself. Once done, log in as you usually would and the expansion will begin to download. How long this takes will depend on your internet connection and download speed.
You won’t be able to play, of course, until June 28 when Dawntrail releases for its early access period. The “Play” button will be grayed out and unavailable. However, downloading now means that you’re all set up and ready to go, giving yourself time to relax knowing that there’s nothing else that can be done.
If you’re feeling at a loss for things to do until maintenance ends and we can all dive back into Eorzea, take some time to go over the preliminary patch notes and familiarize yourself with the starting locations for new content, such as both new Jobs, Viper and Pictomancer.
Otherwise, sit back, try to relax, and wait impatiently for June 28. See you in Tural!
