If you’ve played Palworld for even a little while, chances are you have seen the absolutely gargantuan tree in the distance. Many have tried to reach the tree, and some have succeeded, even building a base there. But is this a smart move? In short, no. But let’s investigate.
In case you missed it, there’s a massive tree on an island to the west of the Astral Mountains. It’s easily the largest thing on the map, raises a lot of questions and at the moment, absolutely none of those questions have been answered by Pocketpair. The only tidbit of lore that we currently have comes in the form of two ominous pieces of information that are received early in the game:
- “The tree holds the truth”
- “The towers are the key”
Players have questioned what this means, with some facing disappointment once they’ve defeated the five current Tower Boss Duos only to find the tree still blocked off. Presumably, we’ll receive answers in a future update. As for the tree, it’s supposed to be inaccessible, as evidenced by the red wall that appears when you try to get close, but this hasn’t stopped players from forcing their way through.
How to get to the giant tree in Palworld, explained
I know you’re wondering how they’ve done this, so I’ll tell you; the easiest way to get through the red wall is to fly up. Once you’re high enough, you’ll be able to slip past the barrier. Having said that, I really don’t think players should be doing this, and Bucky, the Community Manager for Pocketpair, has provided one very good reason to avoid doing so.
Over on Discord, players are able to discuss everything there is about Palworld on the official server, and on February 13, one player used the server to show off their new base on the tree island. Bucky was quick to respond, saying “I don’t recommend building anywhere near the tree.”
With other users asking why not and questioning whether the tree was dangerous, Bucky went on to say “The zone is off-limits for a reason. If you build there, that entire region will be overwritten when it is properly implemented and your data will likely go poof.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but there are some players who have put a lot of effort into not only reaching this off-limits area, but also the base that they subsequently build there. All of this effort appears to be in vain if the area is to be overwritten by a future update, yet players are still forcing their way to the other side of the barrier.
So, while yes you can get to the tree off to the West and you can build a base there, it’s highly recommended that you don’t do this unless you want to lose all of your hard work. There is a long list of places across Palpagos that would be better suited for a base – there are no resources near the tree, it’s an entirely flat piece of land with nothing to offer. You’re better off building a base in the Desiccated Desert to stock up on Coal, or Mount Obsidian to gather Sulfur.
