Is Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 truly free-to-play?
Call of Duty‘s insanely popular Warzone 2.0 battle royale mode has become something of a staple in the modern world of online multiplayer gaming. Despite how well-known the title is, a lot of players don’t realize that Warzone 2.0 is entirely separate from the regular Call of Duty base game. Considering Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is a free-to-play game that is entirely online, there’s been some understandable confusion about whether or not you need PS Plus to play it.
While you ordinarily need to be subscribed to the online service in order to participate in a game’s multiplayer, the short answer is that no, you don’t need a subscription to PS Plus to play Warzone 2.0. The same goes for the newly released DMZ extraction game type, which is another one of the main Warzone game modes. The same can also be said for Microsoft’s online subscription service Xbox Live Gold.

You may not need a subscription for Warzone, but if you want to play Modern Warfare II‘s traditional multiplayer, which includes modes like Domination, Search and Destroy, and Kill Confirmed, among others, you will have to fork over the minimum $9.99 a month or $59.99 yearly for a PS Plus subscription to get in on the action.
If that’s an option you want to spring for, it’s worth noting that there are other perks to help sweeten the deal, like free games every month, and discounts on select titles. Don’t if you game on the Xbox side of things, because the prices for the online subscription service are the exact same, as well as the free games and discount perks.
