It’s from August 18-20, 2022
QuakeCon 2022 will be fully digital this year, and will not return to Dallas once again for an in person event. The news comes straight from Bethesda, who stated the following:
“This year’s QuakeCon will once again be a digital-only event, August 18-20, 2022. Like you, we’re disappointed to not return to Dallas this year. An event of this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon.”
For the digital side, there’s going to be “new streaming programming,” as well as online meetups, charity runs, and more. Details are coming in June. As for 2023, Bethesda is “fully committed to returning with a full in-person festival [next year],” which is a sentiment that we’ve seen for several years now from a variety of event-runners.
Still, it’s good to hope, and companies need to do what they need to do for massive events like this. While many fan cons and the like are still going forward with in-person meets in 2022, major publishers have more liabilities they need to account for. QuakeCon is a communal event, and is very much a “go big or go home” type of deal. A roaring in-person return with lots of excitement is likely what Bethesda wants for 2023.
