World of Warcraft‘s otherworldly expansion, Shadowlands, was met with a mixed response from the player base. While zones like Bastion were idyllic paradises, the Maw was all around pretty awful. However, there is a sliver of good as the edgy Colossal Ebonclaw Mawrat mount can be collected with minimal effort from the desolate zone.
Finally, something worth going to Torghast for
To earn the Colossal Ebonclaw Mawrat, players must complete The Jailer’s Gauntlet: Layer 4 achievement. Head to Torghast in the Maw via Oribos and enter the first portal on the right. This is the entrance for The Jailer’s Gauntlet where you’ll be able to select a level (level one is the default). As a level 70 character, you’ll have absolutely no difficulty in blasting through the Jailer’s minions.
Clearing all of the floors will spit you back out into the hub where you can approach the portal once more. I’m not sure about the rhyme or reason, but you may get the option to skip a level or two on subsequent rounds. Either way, feel free to jump straight to level four as it will count lower levels upon completion.
With level four complete, the achievement will pop and the Sturdy Soulsteel Mawrat Harness will appear in your inventory. Use it to add what I’m almost positive is a dog, and not a rat, to your collection.
After some time away from Torghast, I can appreciate the intent behind it, even if the setting was nothing short of miserable. At least now we can go nuts with amped-up spells and abilities and live out a quick power fantasy.
