One-hundred percent chance of raising the cap…sort of
Borderlands fans everywhere have been clamoring for a level cap increase (from 50) basically since the first week Borderlands 2 launched. Naturally, Gearbox can’t just put off this discussion forever, so Randy Pitchford opted to speak to Venture Beat about the issue.
Pitchford remains as outspoken as ever, saying there is a “100% chance of a level cap increase this year,” but also cites a “50/50 unforeseen consequence that some people will rage about.” The rage may come by way of glitches or broken characters, typically due to a balance issue when people start experimenting with more skill tree points.
He notes that Gearbox may have “painted ourselves into a corner here,” in regards to hinting at a cap increase through an achievement, and the eventual realization that going through with it is going to be a lot harder than they thought.
Personally, I don’t see all of the fuss on a level cap for Borderlands 2, as it’s a different game. With the DLC offerings, raid bosses are repeatable, which pretty much makes extra leveling moot. Like an MMO, extra “levels” basically translate to better loot; so reworking and re-balancing the entire game seems kind of pointless.
Still, if more skills were added, and extra replay value were to come my way through a free title update, I wouldn’t complain!
