I’m so into this
It’s morning still. I feel way too groggy to let out an audible “whoa!” while watching a trailer for a video game, but Astroneer managed to elicit one anyway. Two, actually. It was the player-controlled terrain deformation that did it both times (not that the scenery isn’t also quite lovely; it is).
This is a sandbox adventure about carving up and reshaping exotic worlds to unearth their precious artifacts and resources. The goal? To “become a wealthy baron in the stars.”
But don’t get ahead of yourself. You can send treasures back home, or use them to build tools, or put them toward constructing a base, “which [you] can evolve from a tiny habitat to a sprawling industrial manufacturing facility that automates the shipping of goods off world.”
Yeah. Might want to bring along a friend for drop-in cooperative play.
Who is making this and how? System Era Softworks. The studio was founded in 2014 by former Halo, The Sims, Assassin’s Creed, and Team Fortress 2 developers.
Astroneer releases next year for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
