A board game based on the sequel to a video game
Steamforged Games, the company responsible for the Dark Souls board game, has announced a new partnership with Capcom to bring a tabletop adventure based on Resident Evil 2.
Resident Evil 2: The Board Game will be launched via Kickstarter in late Autumn of 2017, although I’m still a little perplexed as to why Resident Evil 2 was chosen over the first game. No other Resident Evil board game exists to my knowledge unless we’re counting the deck-building game.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to be trusted to bring such an important video game to life as a board game,” said creative director and co-founder of Steamforged Games Mat Hart.
Steamforged broke a few Kickstarter records with Dark Souls: The Board Game; among them was the highest-funded board game to ever launch on the platform. So, I doubt they’ll have much of a problem funding this project.
Let’s just hope this game is as good as the Resident Evil board game envisioned by CJ in a recent Destructoid discusses.
It’s been nice to see tabletop gaming having a bit of a resurgence through crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter. Most of the time these projects are a little too rich for my blood, but Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I wouldn’t mind playing it around a table with some friends.
