Since launch, the Resident Evil 4 remake housed an interesting issue on PS5 in the form of a flickering screen. Thankfully update 1.04 fixes that, and adjusts a few other things: in addition to adding Mercenaries. Let’s dig in.

The main purpose of update 1.04 is to add Mercenaries mode, a gametype that allows players to take on three levels with four characters until they eliminate 150 enemies: at that point their score is tallied based on parameters like combo chains and takedowns, and you can repeat the process until you unlock the Handcannon, or get bored.

The rest of the patch is mainly bug-related. The aforementioned flickering lights issue is addressed, as well as “blurry environments” on PS5. On Xbox Series X/S, there was a deadzone controller issue (the range in which the controller’s sticks don’t respond to movement), and the game’s framerates have been improved on Xbox across the board. Capcom also notes there are “miscellaneous bug fixes” across all platforms, but doesn’t elaborate.

[PlayStation®5 / PlayStation®4 / XBOX SERIES XIS / Steam]

  • A new extra game “The Mercenaries” has been added.
    Aim for the high score in your battle to defeat as many enemies as possible within the time limit.

[PS5]

  • An issue causing flickering lights at the bottom of the screen when certain settings are applied has been fixed.
  • A graphics rendering process which resulted in certain environmental details looking blurry has been fixed.

[XSX|S]

  • The dead zone (the range in which the controller’s sticks don’t respond to movement) has been reduced, resulting in more responsive controls.
  • Adjusted graphics rendering processes, resulting in improved game framerates.

[PS5 / PS4 / XSX|S / Steam]

  • Other miscellaneous bug fixes.
