Retro Centipede ad gives Kafka wood

The above ad comes courtesy of Wired’s Game|Life blog, and it proves the old adage “sex sells, but making obtuse references to the works of Franz Kafka sells more”.

How did we go from ads like the above piece of awesome, to the creepy, meta babys-as-demons spots Sony is pushing on us today? I can only assume it has to do with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the subsequent modernization of the German politico-economic infrastructure. To quote another old adage; “ein vereinheitlichtes Deutschland ruiniert alles”.
