What dark mechromancy is this?

Free-to-play mech shooter Hawken may have a new lease on life with the announcement that it has been acquired by Reloaded Games, the publisher behind APB: Reloaded.

Hawken is here to stay” says Joshua Clausten, the game’s new producer, on Hawken‘s official Facebook page revealing the acquisition. He also outlined a checklist of goals the new team will be working on, mostly concentrating on bug fixes and stability issues in the immediate future with additional updates to come. Welcome news for the remaining fanbase who feared Hawken may have been totally abandoned.

After a troubled and protracted beta period starting in 2012, Hawken moved to Steam’s Early Access program in February of 2014. Since then, the game has remained in an eerie state of limbo. Bugs and glitches have been piling up, and problems with basic functions like resetting passwords or redeeming in-game credits have gone unaddressed. The developers went radio silent for months, prompting many in the community to believe Hawken was being quietly left to die, a zombie of a game left to shamble through a graveyard of other failed Early Access titles.

It will have to be seen whether Reloaded Games will be able to resurrect Hawken and make it the title its fans have always wanted, or if this is merely an iron lung to keep the game breathing. Given Hawken‘s rocky history I’m not going to get my hopes up too high, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it.
