Well, it didn’t take him long. Outspoken game designer and former id man John Romero has stuck his oar into the Zenimax/id buyout situation, sharing only one adjective on the idea of Bethesda’s parent company owning the famous Doom studio: Disgusting.
Romero did what most people seem to be doing these days, and rushed to Twitter in order to vocalize his thoughts, stating simply: “ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting.”
Of course, Romero isn’t a man who leaves things at one statement, and continued voicing his disgust by claiming that “Fallout 3 bought Doom” in a later Tweet. I had no idea that game concepts could buy anything, but apparently they can.
I’ve never really heard of Zenimax doing anything particularly evil, so one has no idea what Romero’s issue could be. Still, the design “legend” doesn’t seem to like very many people at all in this industry, so it’s likely that id could have been bought by any company and illicited the same reaction.
Do you think it’s “disgusting” that Fallout 3 bought Doom, or are you still trying to wrap your mind around the idea of the videogames themselves staging corporate takeovers of each other?
