Katamari Damacy is quite possibly the finest game series of all time based on the age-old premise of rolling balls around to pick up objects while being chided by a homoerotic spaceman, and it was a great disappointment to the millions of fans of this true sleeper classic when Keita Takahashi, Katamari’s creator, decided he was done with the series after only three games. A true artist, Mr. Takahashi, felt that his creation was becoming over-exposed and cliche, and that it was a far better idea to walk away while the series was still fresh and original.
Thankfully, Namco’s deep pockets seem to have wiped away all the integrity he once had, if the latest issue of EGM is to be believed. In this month’s Rumor Mill, EGM reports that three new Katamari games will be coming out in 2007; one for the Wii, one for the PlayStation 3 and one for the Xbox Live Arcade.
We generally don’t advocate reporting on rumors, but the idea of a Wii-controlled Katamari dragging children, cows, Vespa scooters and the Destructoid robot along a brand new 3D world aroused a fierce burning in our loins that neither penicillin nor Haitian voodoo could cure. EGM, if this turns out to be false, we’re torching San Francisco.
