According to the latest gossip in the laundromat, Sony is itching to sink its teeth a little deeper into the wallets of PlayStation Plus subscribers by adding a tiered pricing system. I think it’s something we all saw coming.
The rumor stems from a survey that Sony’s been emailing consumers, asking how much they’d pay for a service that includes Call of Duty: Elite and free Blu-ray based games. There are a number of other subscription plans detailed, with Sony attempting to gauge interest in each one. Varying options include the frequency of service updates, quality of games offered, and percentage at which purchases are discounted.
It makes sense that Sony would want to give this a go. Plus hasn’t done too badly for the company, and at least it’s offered actual benefits, rather than go the Microsoft route and hold items to ransom.
So long as PSN keeps providing free online gaming and doesn’t gate current free content behind a pay-wall, it can do what it likes with the subscription stuff.
