Rumortoid: Tekken 6 on your Xbox 360?

I don’t know if this should be a Rumortoid as much as a Captain Obvious post, since it’s barely surprising when a third party exclusive goes multiplatform these days (unless it’s Metal Gear Solid 4, but let’s not open up that can of worms again). Either way, what’s one more bit of gossip on this very Rumortoidish morning?

To business then — Tekken 6, formerly a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is now being said by lead designer Haruki Suzaki to be “undetermined,” when asked about the final destination of the fighting game sequel. The game, slated for a December 2008 release, was formerly only announced for the PS3, but Namco Bandai may be having that selfsame change of heart that all companies seem to have when there’s money to be made. Which is fair enough.

“No, it hasn’t been determined yet as of the moment,” was all Suzaki could say when asked about PS3 exclusivity. Certainly not a confirmation of an Xbox 360 release, but a definite denial of sole PS3 rights.

Tekken is seen as very much a PlayStation thing. One of the game’s characters even represented the PS2 in SoulCalibur II. A mulitplatform release will hardly provide some almighty blow to Sony (the company’s suffered far greater hits) but it certainly continues to highlight that the way of the third party exclusive is hurtling ever closer towards death.
