I’m a blasphemer, I suppose. Everyone was telling me of how bad of a raging clue they’ve suffered towards Portal. Thing is, I had owned The Orange Box for three months before finally playing through Portal about two weeks ago. It wasn’t until then that I finally understood the whole Weighted Companion Cube phenomenon. Granted, it took me about three seconds to dump the Cube into the incinerator …
Anyway, Ben over at DoofyCrap made a couple of actual weighted Weighted Companion Cubes. The Cubes are made out of two-by-two inch aluminum blocks. Ben then used CAD to sculpt the hearts on the Cube and he painted the hearts to which he gave to his siblings as gifts. Ben will also be working on another one for himself that is going to be made out of acrylic plastic. Don’t hold your breath for mass production though. But hey, maybe if you ask Husky Hog nicely, he’ll make a wooden one for you!
Now this is what Valve should be producing! To get the true Weighted Companion Cube experience, the Cube has to be weighted damn it … and hurt people when throwing them at their faces! And I wasn’t kidding about immediately dumping the damn thing into the incinerator. How long did it take you to burn it?
