To scribble, or not?
I have an idea. Let’s take a game about wonder and creativity and advertise it using the most bland and boring superhero, Superman. Probably because he just had a big movie release. Even his name begs for an ounce of character. We’ve got some details on Scribblenauts Unmasked — A DC Comic Adventure, namely that it’s coming out on September 24 (Wii U, 3DS, PC) and features over 2,000 DC characters and items, including all 14 Supermen listed in the provided infographic (embiggen it below).
Such highlights include, “Man of Tomorrow Superman: This alternate version of Superman wears longer hair, but has all the same power as his counterpart.” Good to know the longer hair carries no ill effect. Admittedly, seeing Superman Beyond is sort of neat after having recently gone back through all of Batman Beyond, now streaming on Netflix. Plus, at least he has a more distinctive look. I also find the Batman Superman sort of hilarious. Oh, comics and their wacky alternative timeline malarkey.
Making fun of Superman is about as much snark as I can muster in relation to the infinitely adorable Scribblenauts series. While the trek into DC territory — mainstay protagonist Maxell will go through Gotham City, Metropolis, Atlantis and more — might smack of desperation for a stagnating series, the recently wonderful LEGO Batman 2 has me excited to take another whimsical jump into the DC Universe. Heck, even the boring old boyscout looks absolutely adorable in Scribblenauts‘ art style.
Plus, Batman. Yeah, I’m a sucker.
