Seaman 2 sits atop the Japanese software sales charts

Recommended Videos

It’s nice to see that the Nintendo DS-loving country of Japan has picked a PS2 title this week as their top seller.

The sequel to the weird Sega Dreamcast fish-talking evolution game Seaman has sold 33,000 copies in its debut week, edging out Nintendo’s not-a-game reading title DS Bungaku Zenshuu by 1,000 units. In Seaman 2, you’re raising/conversing with a prehistoric man rather than a fish-man, and things are roughly twice as insane as last time. Sega’s Web site for the game has to be seen to be believed. Hit “quick tour” to see craziness.

Going down the chart, the Tecmo mystery graphic adventure (and mouthful) DS Nishimura Kyotaro Suspense Shin Tantei Series: Kyoto Atami Zekkai no Kotou – Satsui no Wana  is down to number four, after selling an incredible 61,000 last week during its debut. Impressive, but that doesn’t compare to the PS2 title Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Meteor, which has been rocking the sales charts lately, and is now up to almost 300,000 copies sold.

Other chart notables include Beautiful Katamari’s debut at number seven, Crisis Core (PSP) still going strong at number 18, and Lair still charting (?) at 21.
